The Makeup Story Tag (Text Heavy!)

Hello lovely!
I'm going to warn you right now that this post will be very text heavy.

A huge shoutout to the Roshelle and Alyssa, aka The Makeup Diaries for tagging me to do the Makeup Story Tag! I suggest that you read their take on the tag, and read their other posts because they blog about almost everything beauty related.

1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I started wearing makeup at a very young age due to dance recitals. But I really started wearing makeup daily when I was 16.

 2. How did you get into makeup?
Like I said, I wore makeup for shows, but other than that I actually started wearing makeup because I felt pressured to look a certain way or follow the trend since my friends wore makeup at a young age.

3. What are some of your favourite brands?
My favourite drugstore brands are Maybelline, Revlon, and Rimmel London. However, my favourite high end brands are MAC, Nars, Urban Decay, and Benefit.

 4. What does makeup mean to you?
Makeup is an enhancer...well it should be anyways. Makeup should bring out your best features on the face. Some days when I do my makeup the way I want it to, it gives me great confidence and a positive mood for the day.

5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
Hmm that is honestly really hard, but I would say concealer, eyebrow powder, mascara and lipstick.

6. What is your favourite thing about makeup?
My absolute favourite thing about makeup is that you can create so many different looks to depending your mood. Let's say that I want a more natural look, I would minimize to a certain amount of products to use. Or when I have a dance show, I would have heavy makeup so that the audience can see it beautifully.

7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs. high end makeup?
Drugstore makeup is great for those who are ballin' on a budget, whereas high end makeup is quality over quantity. Personally, I love both because you can find great products at the drugstore for cheap or splurge and treat yourself with a good quality high end makeup.

8. What is one tip of advice you can give a beginner?
My advice to beginners is stick to neutrals when it comes to eyeshadows, and blend your eyeshadow so that there aren't any harsh lines. Also, a huge tip is to know your skin tone whether you're a warm or cool tone.
There are a lot of no-nos when it comes to foundation and concealer. Always pick the right shade or ask a beauty consultant at the store you're in for help. Lastly, be sure to practice your makeup because you always learn from trial and error.

9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
I never understood those who wear thick, heavy and unnatural looking false lashes. To be honest, sometimes those thick lashes look like spiders attached to the eyelids.

10. What do you think about the beauty community on Youtube?
If it weren't for the beauty gurus on YouTube, I wouldn't have known so much about makeup. I wouldn't know any good products because I wouldn't have anyone to recommend it to me. I wouldn't know how to create smokey eyes or put on bronzer. All in all, the beauty community on the interweb is awesome because you learn so much from other people.

Well I hope that you enjoyed reading my take on the Makeup Story tag!
Feel free to leave me comments on a makeup trend that you never really understood.

Summer Caribbean Festival 2014

Hello lovely!
Yesterday I went to this Caribbean Festival with two of my friends, Alfanet and Caitlin. The place was filled with vendors, amusement snacks, a bouncy castle, live music...It was like a mini carnival for the weekend.

Originally I wanted to get Henna, but it was extremely overpriced. The minimum price was $5 for a pea sized design, it was ridiculous. All I bought was a blue raspberry sno cone.

After walking around the festival, my friends and I took a few pictures and headed back to Downtown on the seabus.

My friends and I ate at a restaurant called The Warehouse which is in downtown. It's an awesome place because the food is $4.95 everyday.

It was really nice to see my friends and catch up with them.

Laid-Back Boyfriend Jeans

Hello Lovely!
I've been on the hunt for the perfect pair Boyfriend Jeans. So far, I've tried H&M and Forever 21 but I didn't have any luck. In my opinion, boyfriend jeans and mom jeans are a hit or miss. They either look good on your body shape or they are not flattering at all.

My ultimate favourite place to get jeans are at Gap. The Gap has different sizing for petites, plus sizes, any shape and size, they got it. Every single time I buy skinny jeans, they are the most comfortable things to wear that look awesome on my body and fit perfectly. Perfectly as in they make my butt look plump and I don't need to hem them.

Where is your favourite place to get jeans?
I've heard a lot about J. Crew and their denim as well as Zara, so I definitely will check them out.

Necklace: Vintage from my mom
Blouse: Jacob
Belt: Old Navy
Jeans: Gap
Shoes: Walmart

Collective Haul for July (Part 2)

Hello Lovely!
Here is part two of my July haul. Let me know if you own, tried, or want one of these products!

This month I went binge shopping on makeup brushes, because I still don't have that many brushes. I'm saving up to get more Real Techniques brushes, MAC brushes, and Sigma brushes.

From left to right:
 lip defining brush from Elf
eyelash/brow wand from Elf
fine liner brush from Real Techniques
essential foundation brush from Real Techniques
non-authentic MAC powder brush.

Let's talk about blushes. Two of the face makeup essentials that I lack in my makeup collection are blushes and bronzers. I literally had only 2 blushes and bronzers. Now I have 3 bronzers, and 5 blushes!

MAC Cosmetics in Coygirl
Physicians Formula in Rose
theBalm in Betty-Lou Manizer

In my first impression post on Hard Candy's Glamoflauge concealer, I also featured one of my recently purchased Benefit's Boi-ing concealer.

Lastly as of makeup products go, I bought a NARS lipstick in Niagara. It's very beautiful and it has become one of my favourites of July!

I think that this is still makeup related... I bought this 3x3 lipstick container to display all my favourite lipsticks.

I went to Daiso the other day and quickly picked up this eyelash case. It can hold three pairs of lashes which is awesome when I want to put on a pair on the go.

Aldo is my favourite place to get cute sunglasses because they are reasonably priced compared to Urban Outfitters and TopShop.

I got two more Essies. I have no idea why I'm really drawn to Essie nail polishes. It's probably because I adore the colours and the sleek simple packaging.
I got Mint Candy Apple and As Gold As It Gets.

As for clothing goes, my mum and I went on a tiny shopping spree and suggested that we get some jeans because I don't own a lot. We went to the Gap and I picked out Boyfriend jeans, and black skinny jeans.

I also bought this light halter top which is from Brandy Melville. However, I bought it second hand from a local Instagram boutique.

Last but not least, I got this work out tank top that has a bra attached from Joe Fresh.

Before I forget, I also have a new banner!
This awesome chibi of a mermaid version of me was drawn by this lovely person. She is open to commissions and she accepts PayPal! Here is her Instagram and Tumblr.

PS. I will be posting my outfit of the day featuring my boyfriend jeans tomorrow!

July Favourites

It's better to be early than late right? Here are my July favourites!

Let me know if you've tried any of these or have your own favourites in the comments section

These two are my favourite brushes for the month. I bought the one on the left this month (you would know if you've read part one of my collective haul for July.) The one on the right, is a brush I bought when I first started using makeup which was about a year or two ago. The style of the brush has changed completely to the one on the left. These two brushes are for eyeshadow and I use them as a blending brush for my crease.

This NARS eyeshadow is in the colour Fez. I love this colour because it's neutral and cocoa-y and it gives subtle smoky eyes some warmth.

I also got this recently and I will feature this along with many other items I bought in the part 2 of my July collective haul. I still have a few more items coming in, so I'll be posting my purchases near the home stretch of the month.

Anyways, this is theBalm's Betty-Lou Manizer. It's a 3-in-1: eyeshadow, bronzer and shimmer. It has little flecks of shimmer that gives the face a glow. I love it and I really want to get the Mary-Lou and Cindy-Lou Manizer.

This mini lipstick is in this year's birthday gift duo from Sephora. This lipstick is from Make Up For Ever in the colour Rouge

My last makeup favourite is a NARS lipstick in the colour Niagara. It's a beautiful satin lipstick that gives off a gorgeous pinky coral colour.

I bought these cute aviators this month as well. These shades are from Aldo and the sides of the glasses have a leather rope woven into the chains. Sunglasses from Aldo are super inexpensive and they have a 2 for $20 deal.

These shoes have been with me through thick and thin. These are the Nike Free 4.0 and they're in a deep purple-y raspberry colour. Lately, I've been exercising to keep my body in shape. I literally wear these runners everyday. I really want to get the Nike FlyKnits, Nike Roshe Runs or the Nike Air Max 90s. Look forward to an August Wishlist blog post!
My last favourite of the month is this 1L mason jar. It is with me wherever I go around the house. It helps me with my daily intake of water, because it's very important to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day.
